Charlie Billingham Biography

An RA Schools graduate, Charlie Billingham studied Fine Art and History of Art at Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh.

Billingham creates expanded installations rooted in painting through a process of layering, similar to the production of collage. He combines his paintings with sculptural and printed objects to create interior spaces and environments that deliberately bombard the senses of the viewer aiming to evoke pleasurable delights.

In addition to his solo graduation show, Coming Out, held at the Royal Academy Schools in 2013, Billingham has also taken part in a number of group exhibitions. Last year, these included Febreze at Kinman Gallery in London, New Order: British Art Today at Saatchi Gallery in London, Clay Pipe at Galerie HFBK in Hamburg and Assemble at Liquid Courage Gallery in Nassau. In 2012, his work appeared in Another Room at R O O M Artspace in London. His work is represented in several collections including Cini Foundation, Franks Suss Collection and Saatchi Collection.
