Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is more than just a famous name associated with art of the Baroque and Dutch Golden Age period. The Dutch painter was also a printmaker (etcher), teacher, and even art dealer. His most popular works are that of his portraits and history paintings.

Through the marriage to Saskia van Uylenburgh, a cousin to a successful art dealer in Amsterdam, his career began to explode, gaining wealthy patrons who commissioned the artist to paint their portraits.

On top of being known for his history and portrait paintings, Rembrandt was also known for his mythological and religious works such as the infamous painting, The Blinding of Samson (1636). While his paintings are highly sought after, his etchings in which he developed his own technique, producing them on copper (before transferring them onto paper) were internationally renowned during his lifetime just as they are in the present day. Some examples of his famous etchings include Diana at the Bath, David in Prayer, A Beggar with a Wooden Leg, and Adam and Eve.
