Tracey Emin (1963--) is a British artist and member of the YBAs (Young British Artists). She was born in Croydon and raised in Margate; her father was married to a woman other than Emin's mother and divided his time between the two families. She studied fashion at the Medway College of Design where she met expelled student Billy Childish, they were a couple until 1987.

Emin studied printing at Maidstone Art College, a period which she described as having the greatest influence over the rest of her life. In 1987 Tracey Emin moved to London to study for an MA at the Royal College of Art. She is most famous for her Turner Prize shortlisted work My Bed as well as Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995, shown at Charles Saatchi's Sensation exhibition.
