Description:

On the edge of the page in ink, inscribed with angel man number and date. To the left, hymen with a burning torch and a flag of victory with the inscription'AU RENDÉS VOUS' strides forward; behind him a man playing the violin rides a dog: fidelity and joy. This is followed in a hurry by the groom, who carries the young woman sitting in a basket on his back; Cupid sits blindfolded on his neck, which he holds by his legs. Behind him goes'the Charivari of the French': a bagpiper with a stilt foot, carrying a kettle on his back, on which a harlequin dancing behind him drums. Above these last two figures a stork flies to the left." (Engelmann 1857, p. 86).

Engelmann notes on the creation of the sheet: "This sheet was made on the occasion of a wedding of his friend Barthelemy, an iron merchant, then reindeer, finally secretary of the French Consistorium in Berlin, to use it as a card, which was marked with the names of each guest on which envelopes were placed. His young wife sitting in the basket was a née Kolbe, aunt of the recently deceased painter Kolbe in Berlin" (Handwritten by the artist.)" (Engelmann 1857, p. 86).
