Signed, dated and inscribed: "C. Reinhart fec Romæ 1792 | Avanzo del Teatro a Albano". In the foreground a species-rich plant foreground, which refers to the Dutch-German training of the artist. The pastoral motif is also echoed again. The shepherd, however, wears contemporary clothes and is located with his flock in a closed area, in the ruins of the ancient theatre of Albano. The elliptical structure was located on the edge of the Roman legion camp and was able to accommodate 15,000 visitors. Beyond the wall to the south is the façade of the church of S. Maria della Stella, framed by trees. Ancients and Christians are related to each other..
