Born in Hakodate City, Kieko Atsuzawa graduated from the Women's Art University, Department of Design where she studied intaglio printing. However at a later point woodblock printmaking became her preferred medium. In 2014 she received the first prize for her work, Shishito Shohyo-shu (Collection of Ex-libris for Shishito) by the Nihon Jihi Shuppan Bunka-sho. Her name has also been (erroneously?) read as Tsurusawa instead of Atsuzawa.

The subject of this print, a pairing of Chinese bell flowers and dragonflies, seems to be a direct reference to a coveted composition by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) published approximately 150 years earlier.
