Note: This is one of the great classic images of the ‘American Nude’ by Wesselman from the very important early part of his career. He drew it to help raise funds for SEDFRE - The Scholarship Education and Defense Fund for Racial Equality. This movement was founded in the US in the late 1960’s and Wesselman was an active supporter of racial equality. It is a work which epitomises the balance of colour, concept and form, strongly drawn from the popular imagery of advertising, especially advertising hoardings, which was to be Wesselman’s central contribution to the Pop aesthetic.
Superb impression. In outstandingly fine condition. On pale cream smooth wove paper. Full sheet: 584 x 736 mm. Image: 425 x 582 mm.
