The print depicts a young samurai in the Shinobugaoka area of Edo (now Ueno Park in northeastern Tokyo) during the period of the flowering of cherry trees. The young man is under a rain of cherry blossoms. The beauty of the blossoms was considered to be particularly delicate and evocative when seen in moonlight.
