1887
Macke is born on 3rd January in Meschede/Sauerland.

1904-05
Study at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf and at Kunstgewerbeschule Düsseldorf with F. H. Ehmcke. Interested in theater.

1907-08
First journey to Paris in summer. Participation in lessons in the atelier of Lovis Corinth in Berlin.

1908
Stay in Italy and another journey to Paris.

1908-09
Military service for one year.

1909
Marriage to Elisabeth Gerhardt in Bonn. Honeymoon in Paris. Gets inspired by the works of the Fauvists. Friendship to Louis Moilliet. Acquaintance with Carl Hofer.

1910
Birth of his son Walter. Move to Tegernsee for one year. Friendship to Franz Marc. Return to Bonn in winter.

1911
Friendship to Max Ernst. Work on almanac „Der Blaue Reiter“ and on both expositions of the group in 1911 and 1912.

1912
Co-organisator of the exhibition „Sonderbund“ in Cologne. Exhibition in Künstlervereinigung „Caro-Bube“ in Moskow and in „Sezession“ in Cologne. First own collective exhibition in the Gallery Thannhauser in Munich. Travel to Paris with Franz Marc, where he gets to know Robert Delaunay.

1913
Birth of his son Wolfgang. Exhibition in the Gallery „Arnold“ in Dresden and in the Gallery „Der Sturm“ of Herwarth Walden in Berlin. Co-organisator of the exhibition „Rheinische Expressionisten“ in Bonn and of „Erste Deutsche Herbstsalons“ in Berlin.

1914
Stay in Hilterfingen at the Thuner Lake (Suisse) for half a year. Journey to Tunisia, together with Paul Klee and Louis Moilliet. Employment for war since august. He died in war at 26th September near Perthes-les-Hurlus in Le Champagne (France).
