Darryl Hughto

Born 1943 in Watertown, New York, Hughto studied at the Cranbrook Academy, Michigan. Between 1971 and 1979, he taught at Syracuse University. Darryl Hughto made his initial reputation as an abstract painter showing in New York City during the seventies. Works from that period in the Clement Greenberg Collection were recently included in the traveling museum exhibition of the collection. In the mid eighties Hughto began to paint landscape, still life and figurative works. He brings, however, both the eye and techniques of a highly talented abstractionist. His large scale acrylic landscapes in particular speak forcefully about his roots in Abstract Formalism. Hughto lives in upstate New York with his wife, the painter Susan Roth.
