Born in Russia moves to Palestine to study. WWI intervenes and he moves to Greece. In 1920 arrives in New York and studies at the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design and the Grand CentralSchool of Art. Early 1930s he is impoverished by the Depression and is reduced to living on the Bowery. 1935 joins the FAP/ WPA where he begins his series of Bowery prints. From 1938 his work is included in numerous exhibitions and he won many prizes over many years. In the mid 1950s Jacobi continues work as an illustrator and returned to study painting. Died in 1984.
