George Ball Biography

George Ball, painter and printmaker, was born in San Francisco, California on August 10, 1929. He studied art at Standford University in California. One of the second generation of artists to look to Europe, Ball moved to Paris in 1957. Ball studied with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in 1958 and he taught briefly at the workshop. With Hayter’s support, Ball began showing internationally.

Ball exhibited extensively with both solo and group shows and is included in the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts, San Francisco; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Kunst Museum in Zurich; Victoria and Albert Museum; Musée d’Art Moderne and Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris; and the Victoria and Albert Museum. He was a member of “Amigrav” (Amicale Internationale de Graveurs) in Montreal, Canada.

George Ball died in Paris, France on October 30, 2010.
