Marina Abramović is a renowned Serbian performance artist known for her groundbreaking and provocative work. Born on November 30, 1946, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia), Abramović has made a significant impact on the contemporary art scene through her innovative and boundary-pushing performances.

One of her most famous works is “The Artist is Present,” which took place at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City in 2010. For this piece, Abramović sat silently at a table for a total of 736 hours and 30 minutes, while visitors were invited to sit across from her and make eye contact. In “Rhythm 0” (1974), Abramović placed 72 objects on a table, including a gun with a single bullet, and invited the audience to use the objects on her however they wished. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice Biennale.
