Coat of Arms with a Skull 1503 Original engraving printed in black ink on laid paper Signed in the plate with the artist’s monogram on a tablet lower center, also dated lower center.  A superb 16th century Meder “a” impression of the second and final state, printed after the appearance of the diagonal line across the skirt of the woman, showing rich contrasts throughout, printed sometime between 1540 and 1550.  Catalog: Bartsch 101; Dodgson 36; Panofsky 208; Meder 98.II.a; Hollstein 98.b; Strauss 40; Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum 37.II.a. In excellent condition, printed on a sheet with ¼ inch margins outside the platemark on all four sides.
