Dame Barbara Hepworth D.B.E

Title: Sun and Moon

Medium: Original Lithograph in colours, on Barcham Green Paper,  1972, signed by the artist in pencil, publishers blindstamp lower left,

Size:   Paper size: 75 x 55 cms

Edition:  60

Note:  This was part of a series entitled “Twelve Lithographs”. The series that Hepworth drew in 1968 were her first major work in the medium. She had just been honoured by a major retrospective at the Tate Gallery. Stanley Jones, who ran the most influential British lithography studio, Curwen Press, and who was also a driving force re-establishing lithography as a significant creative artistic medium, approached her and offered her the chance to develop her concepts and ideas for prints. Through him Hepworth learned how she could combine colour and stroke in an abstract sense and, through texture, link this to the surface and spatial sense of her sculpture.
