De Vesme 19; Kozakiewicz 180
mm 770 x 620; sheet mm 780 x 650
A very fine luminous impression, printed on paper with watermark ‘Wangen’, with margins.
In good condition except for a soft vertical fold visible on the recto, other fold visible in the verso only. Minor handling traces in the bottom margin with small carefully restored tears,
probably the print was preserved in one album.
The painting of the same subject (Kozakiewic 179) in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden Gemäldegalerie Alter Meister, was painted between 1749-1753. Our print follows the painting very closely.
The rarity of this print was already pointed out by De Vesme. The plate was destroyed with other plates of Bellotto’s Saxon views in the bombardment of Dresden during the Seven Year War with Prussia in 1760 (Kozakiewic p. 106).
