Los Angeles Olympic Games Poster

By Billy Al Bengston

Billy Al Bengston (1934–2022) was an American artist associated with the West Coast "Finish Fetish" movement, known for blending fine art with the aesthetics of car and surf culture. A former motorcycle racer, Bengston often used automotive lacquer and materials in his work, creating sleek, vibrant paintings with a glossy, industrial finish. His iconic motifs include chevrons and hearts, rendered with a distinctive California cool. He was a key figure in the L.A. art scene of the 1960s, bridging pop, abstraction, and lifestyle.
