Damien Hirst’s series, The Elements, includes four prints; Earth, Air, Fire and Water and represents the early scientific notion of the four elements. The idea that these four made up all matter was the cornerstone of science and philosophy for over two thousand years. ‘Fire’ is a symbol of both creativity and destruction and represents energy and power. It destroys without discrimination and creates new life from the ashes. Hirst continuous exploration of life and death continues here as a solid but delicate network of dense and dark butterfly wings in bright and firey tones of oranges and reds.
