This lithograph was created for the exhibition ‘Hockney Paints the Stage’ at the Walker Art Centre, 20 November 1983 – 22 January 1984. The poster reproduces Hockney’s painting ‘Ravel’s Garden with Night Glow’ of 1980 and has been boldly signed in red ink. We have purchased the piece from the collection of American artist Patrick Eddington. It is referenced in: ‘Off the Wall : Hockney Posters’, Catalogue No. 114. The upcoming major retrospective of Hockney’s work due in the new year is sure to increase interest in the artists work. Hand-signed in red ink.

The Artist

David Hockney

Born in Bradford England on the 9th July 1937 David Hockney was interested in art from a very early age, and was an admirer of Fragonard, Picasso and Matisse. The fifth of six children his parents encouraged his artistic experimentation. He went to the Bradford College of Art 1953-57. To fulfil his national service, he worked in hospitals as he was a conscientious objector to war. Then in 1959 he was accepted into the Royal College of Art, Graduate school in London.
