This is a rooftop view of Vincent’s Cove, lost to urban renewal and now interned under Rogers St, Gloucester, Ma. Vincent’s Cove laid claim to three shipbuilding yards. The Cove was narrow and cramped due to building encroachment. The Cove was visited by Winslow Homer during his first visit to Gloucester and inspired at least one painting and wood engraving. Mr. Gorvett chose to recreate this view from a long lost photograph, circa 1914.
