Swiss born master print maker François Pont has lived in worked in London as a professional artist since 1979. Known for his beautiful and evocative abstracts, Francois studied at three of the UK’s top art schools; Chelsea School of Art, Byam Shaw School of Art and Camberwell School of Art – where he studied printmaking for his postgraduate degree.
François is interested in both traditional and experimental techniques of printmaking, alongside painting and drawing. His own prints are an ever-intriguing mixture of various expert techniques, making each print unique in its own right. The repetitive and time-intensive methods of the black ink engraving combined with the spontaneity of the hand painted colour washes create a unique movement and rhythm on the paper. There is an elemental nature in François’ work and the dynamism of the natural world – the space and vastness of mountains, lakes and valleys – can be experienced in his work.
