Franz von Bayros is one of the most important ex-libris creators of the fin-de-siècle. Characteristic for his virtuoso draftsmanship are his preference for complex compositions and picturesque wash drawings. Among Bayros’ most popular motifs are tantalizingly beautiful women, who are usually at the centre of his ornamentally richly decorated works. Their erotic effect unfolds not only through opulent rococo costumes but also by being lightly clad. In this way the dandylike artist provoked a process of morality which he could only escape by fleeing.
