An original copper plate engraving on laid paper after a painting by Flemish artist Paul van Somer (1577-1621) titled “James I: King of Great Britain”, 1736. Engraved by English artist George Virtue (1684-1756). The original painting hangs in the Palace of Hampton Court in London, UK. Matted in a burgundy suede 100% cotton rag mat from Holland. Currently shrink-wrapped. Matted size: 19.25″ x 15″. Image size (platemark): 11.75″ x 7.75″. Slight toning to paper associated with age. In otherwise very good condition.
James VI and I (1566-1625) was King of Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from the union of the Scottish and English crowns on 24 March 1603 until his death in 1625.
