Note: The motif of the ‘Soaring Bird’ is crucial to Braque’s art in the immediate post-war years. He transformed it into the most expressive and poetic symbol of the new world and the new freedom of expression and inspiration which this period allowed. He made a series of compositions of which this with, its brilliance of golden sunset light, is one of the most famous.
