Issued edition of 75 impressions, plus the few proofs, as here. Drawn and printed at the Mourlot Studio, Paris 1958. Edition issued by Galerie Maeght, Paris 1958.

Ref: Vallier – Braque L’Oeuvre Gravé no 126.

Note: The motif of the ‘Soaring Bird’ is crucial to Braque’s art in the immediate post-war years. He transformed it into the most expressive and poetic symbol of the new world and the new freedom of expression and inspiration which this period allowed. He made a series of compositions of which this with, its brilliance of golden sunset light, is one of the most famous.

Beautiful impression with glowing fresh colours. On pale cream wove Arches paper. Excellent fresh condition. Worked to the full sheet size: 485 x 654mm.
