Etching and drypoint
Fiorani–Dinoia n. 14 I/III
mm 285 x 217; sheet mm 435 x 325
Very fine impression printed with plate tone on ivory laid paper with fragment of Arches watermark; also we know an impression on paper with Roman Capital characters, used by Degas.
First state of three, very rare: Dinoia knows only six sheets in the first state printed by the artist.
The chiaroscuro contrasts between the background and the figure is replaced by a delicate shadowing obtained with vibrating strokes which became thicker only in a few contrasting areas, as in the ribbon, the fan and the lower areas on the left on the couch.
In very fine condition, with uncut margins all around. Our impression, for its refined technical characteristic, was probably made by the artist.
