Jazz is the only book in which Matisse provided both text and illustrations. In his later years, his exploration of color and shape often were accomplished with cut and arranged paper. In Jazz, Matisse utilized the pochoir technique to produce the flat, brillant colors of the original collages. The bold compositions and visual energy of this volume have made it the most sought-after of all the twentieth-century artists’ print collections.
