Arguably the greatest colorist of his generation, Howard Hodgkin created the exquisite, Blue Listening Ear in 1986 as a lift-ground etching and aquatint with carborundum and hand-coloring. Initialed in pencil, dated and numbered, this artwork measures 18 1/2 x 25 1/4 in. (47 x 64 cm), unframed and is from the edition of 100. It is designated as Heenk 73 in the artist’s catalogue raisonne.
