This print was produced to accompany the issue of the United Nations postage stamps for International Volunteer Day on the 6th May 1988. Adopted by the UN to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and their role in making peace and sustainable development a reality, its philosophy was very much in keeping with Haring’s approach to life. From the earliest days of his career he was a devoted social activist, acutely aware of the political issues surrounding his work. This vibrant design featuring two interlocking figures is a wonderful testament to the spirit of collaboration and openness that marks Haring’s oeuvre.
