The first photo session of this period took place on 28 March 1955, In Greene’s studio at 480Lexington Avenue. The session was commissioned by The Saturday Evening Post, and tending to Marilyn’s hair was the famous MGM hair stylist Sydney Guilaroff, who had brought his Pekingese dogs with him. Marilyn scooped them up and they became an integral part of Greene’s images, as important as the Bill Blass gown she was wearing.
These photographs were seen for the first time in 2013 after being locked away and unpublished for over 50 years until Andrew Weiss Gallery acquired the original negatives and rights.
