Reginald Marsh (1898-1954), Drum Majorette, engraving, 1940, signed in pencil lower right margin [also with initials and date lower right]. Reference: Sasowsky 204, fourth state (of 4). From the signed edition of 300 printed by Atelier 17 and published in the quarterly magazine Laurels, May, 1947. In good condition, soft folds across image, with the binding holes at left edge, the full sheet with deckle edges and full margins, 11 3/4 x 6, the sheet 16 3/4 x 12 3/4 inches, archival mounting.
A very good clear impression.
Apparently Drum Majorette was done all in engraving, an ancient technique that was being revived by Stanley Hayter at his Atelier 17 at this time. It appears that Marsh was conversant with the engraving technique through much of his printmaking career, but tended to focus on it a bit more towards the end of his career. He made a series engravings of figures just prior to creating Drum Majorette. These were typically sketches or unfinished figures, in contrast to Drum Majorette which is a completed rendering.
