Science Photo Library Print

Cassini spacecraft image of Mimas, one of Saturn’s moons. Saturn’s rings are seen in the background, at upper right is the Keeler Gap in the outer A ring. Mimas’ surface is covered in impact craters. Mimas is composed of water ice with only a small amount of rock. The Cassini- Huygens spacecraft was launched in 1997 to investigate Saturn, its rings and its moons. This image was taken at a distance of 68,000 kilometres from Mimas on 2 August 2005. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
