‘Saturn’s Rings’ 2006

Saturn’s rings, as seen by the narrow angled camera on NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. This view looks toward the unlit side of the rings from about 30 degrees above the rings’ plane, with the high phase angle giving the rings a golden appearance. The outer section of the B ring (top right), the inner section of the A ring (bottom left), and the Cassini division that separates the two rings (black, centre) can be seen. The thin blue band is the diffuse ringlet that lies in the Cassini division. Saturn’s rings are mainly composed of ice and dust particles.
