Swoon Biography

Swoon is one of New York’s most prolific resident artists whose life sized woodcuts and cityscape installations can be found on walls in various states of beautiful decay in cities around the world. The scope, variety and ambition of Swoons projects have gained her critical acclaim and her work is in the permanent collections of a number of public institutions including MOMA, the Brooklyn Museum and the Tate Modern.

Previous projects include the Swimming Cities of Switchback Seas, which were seven boats designed and built by Swoon and her crew from discarded materials found in New York dumpsters and then sailed down the Hudson River. The project travelled to Venice for the biennial in 2008.

Recent projects have taken her to Haiti where, along with local architects and designers, she developed a series of sustainable dome buildings employing local materials which were subsequently used for housing and community centres.
