About Stanza del Borgo (IFPDA)

Founded in 1967, directed by Silvana Bareggi, the “Stanza del Borgo” is one of the oldest Italian Galleries in Italy specialized in Old Master drawings. It has participated to the prestigious Mostra Internazionale dell'Antiquariato in Florence ever since the earliest exhibitions. Since the ‘80s it extended its activities to Old Master and Modern Prints, as well as small paintings for collectors. With a passion that comes from her University Studies of History of Art, Silvana Bareggi wrote her thesis on the drawings of Procaccini Family’s. From its foundation, the Gallery has organised at least one exhibition a year accompanied by illustrated scholarly catalogues, including critical essays by Italian and foreign experts and bibliographical references. The Stanza del Borgo deals with graphic works by major artists such as Dürer, Schongauer, Rembrandt, the Tiepolo Family, Goya, Piranesi, Whistler, Pissarro, Gauguin. Since 2010 the Gallery enlarged its activity to Japanese woodblock Prints and Drawings including Master from Ukiyo-e’s period to 20th Century’ones as Harunobu, Koryusai, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Utamaro, Kunisada and Shin Hanga. Furthermore the Gallery has collected an interesting selection of Surimono and Shunga prints by well-known artists. The “Stanza del Borgo” counts among its customers private Collectors and Institutions such as the Washington National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, California, the Tokyo National Museum of Western Art, the Zurich Graphische Sammlung, the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, the Uffizi and the Biblioteca Marucelliana, in Florence. Its rich and updated Library, which includes numerous books on drawings, paintings and the graphic arts, is open to Collectors and Academics. The Gallery is a member of the “International Fine Print Dealers Association” (IFPDA) based in New York, “CINOA” and “Associazione Librai Antiquari” . The criteria guiding the selection, quality and conservation of the Piece of Art are rigorous. Every Piece is accompanied by a photograph and a certificate of guarantee.
