729 Colors, Julia Samuels

729 Colors illustrates the capacity of color range available through aquatint etching. Aquatint Rainbow is made with three plates etched with a 7 step tonal gradation and shows one example of each possible color arranged in a logical design. 64 Colors is accomplished with a 4 step tonal gradation over each of 3 plates, and 729 Colors is accomplished with 9 steps. These prints randomise the layout of the colors while adhering to a regular square grid and minimalist aesthetic.
