Michelle Charles Biography

Michelle Charles was born in London and arrived in America on a Jacob Mendelson Memorial Fellowship in 1982 where she spent 20 years in Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and New York City. During this time, she received numerous awards in support of her work, including a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in 1993 and 2001.

She currently lives, and has her studio in London.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the world, including shows at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge, Mobile Home Gallery in London, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston, and at the first Lodz Biennale in Poland.

Michelle’s works are a part of public and private collections that include the Brooklyn Museum, the British Museum, the National Museum of Art in Washington, the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover MA, The Jerome Foundation in Minneapolis, the Contemporary Arts Society in London and the Museum of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in London.
