Description: Created in 2021, Melpomène is an eroded bronze sculpture from Daniel Arsham’s series of classical divinities. Representing the Greek muse of tragedy, this work blends antiquity and futurism with an iconic Tiffany™ green patina, evoking the oxidation of time on an imaginary archaeological artifact.
Arsham applies his signature aesthetic of voluntary deterioration (“fictional archaeology”), transforming the figure into a symbol of altered memory. The bronze’s stylized erosion, mineral textures and refined coloring give this piece a balance between power and poetry.
