Isaac Friedlander (1890–1968) was a Latvian-born American printmaker celebrated for his expressive etchings and lithographs. Trained in Europe before emigrating to the United States in 1929, he brought a bold, modern sensibility to subjects ranging from urban architecture to scenes of labor, migration, and war. Friedlander’s prints are distinguished by their dramatic use of line and shadow, often combining dense, textural detail with sweeping, almost sculptural compositions. His work reflects both personal displacement and a broader social conscience, making his prints resonate as powerful visual narratives as well as finely crafted works of art.
