Born in Belgium, artist Jan Vermeiren studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium. He left for South African in the early 1970s. He currently lives and works in South Africa and Belgium.
Jan Vermeiren is an artist whose work bridges two rich and very different cultures. On the one hand, his European heritage, on the other, the profound influence of Africa, which is now his homeland. His images reveal a series of archetypal symbols from various ancient cultures, reflecting his belief that it is these “primitive” symbols that unite mankind across time and different civilisations.
