Part of the celebrated Lino-Litho series, Planche IV merges black linocut with lithographic color backgrounds, reflecting Alechinsky’s bold, gestural style. The portfolio was printed in Paris by Clot, Bramsen et Georges and published by Jacques Putman, with this HC edition personally dedicated to him.

In an extraordinary extension of the project, each linocut also served as the basis for a bronze casting, created in collaboration with artist Jean Clerté. These sculptures were cast in a limited edition of 8 + IV artist’s proofs at the Fonderie de cloches de Paris et Bagnolet, a foundry renowned for its bell-making tradition—underscoring Alechinsky’s inventive dialogue between image and material..

The work is in Excellent condition.

The Artist

Pierre Alechinsky

Pierre Alechinsky prints are associated with Abstract Expressionist, Lyrical Abstraction and the abstract style of art known as Tachisme. Using a range of media in his art, he is an engraver, graphic artist, painter and film maker. He learned engraving and gained other skills in Brussels and Paris. First he studied printmaking, illustration and photography at the National School of Decorative Arts in La Cambre. He became specialised in Etchings, Aquatint and watercolour on rice paper. He then continued his art education at Atelier 17 in Paris, where he was a student of the printmaker Stanley William Hayter. In 1949 the art group Cobra was formed. Its purpose was to break away accepted standards of western art and to make art more about the human condition.
