Theresa Weber Biography

Theresa Weber explores the conditions of life in a complex, chaotic world. Her collages, textile installations, and collaborative performances feature disparate materials, both organic and industrially manufactured. The often expansive, tactile, and colorful works reflect the meanings of a variety of sources, including Caribbean mythologies, deities, historical research fields, and the Caribbean carnival. She draws on theoretical concepts such as cosmology, chaos theory, and creolization. In doing so, she explores rigid categorizations, power, and hierarchy.

The artist, who has Jamaican, German, and Greek backgrounds, studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Katharina Grosse and Ellen Gallagher. After completing a two-year postgraduate program, she transferred to the Royal College of Art in London. Solo exhibitions followed at the Dortmunder Kunstverein, the Moltkerei Werkstatt e.V., Cologne (2021), Somerset House, London (2023), and the Kunstmuseum Bochum, Neun Kelche, Berlin (2024). Theresa Weber's works are included in the collections of the Bundeskunstsammlung, the Kunstmuseum Bochum, the Morgan Stanley Collection, the London School of Economics (LSE) Collection, the Mercedes Benz Collection, the Philara Collection, the By-Form Design Studio Collection, and many more.
