Printing – Manneken Press
Manneken Press is an independent fine art printing press publishing and exhibiting original, limited edition prints and artist’s books. Since its founding in 2000 Manneken Press has invited select artists from around the United States and beyond to their Bloomington, IL studios to create works of art in collaboration with Master Printer Jonathan Higgins.
The resulting prints in intaglio, relief, lithography and monotype, as well as some digital processes, have been collected by museum, corporate and private collectors, and exhibited at major fine art fairs in Chicago, Miami, Boston, Baltimore, Houston and New York City, and in galleries across the United States.
Manneken Press has been the subject of several survey exhibitions: Manneken Press at Five Years at Wakely Gallery, Illinois Wesleyan University in 2005; Full Circle: Prints from Manneken Press travelled to venues in California, Texas and Louisiana in 2007; and Artists of Manneken Press was mounted by the Peoria Contemporary Art Center in 2011. Manneken Press prints have been reviewed in such publications as Art In Print, Art In America, ARTnews, and Art On Paper. Manneken Press Gallery, an exhibition space adjacent to our studios, was launched in 2013 to showcase prints and other works on paper by Manneken Press artists.
Jonathan Higgins, Manneken’s Master Printer, has collaborated with many artists and worked at printmaking studios in the U.S and Europe. Notable artists he has printed for include Robert Indiana, Alison Saar, Kiki Smith and Trenton Doyle Hancock.
Manneken Press will be exhibiting at the SELECT Fair in New York, May 8 – 11, 2014, during Frieze Week.
