John Crossley Biography

Born in Essex in 1952, John Crossley studied sculpture at St Martin’s School of Art from 1970-73, taking postgraduate sculpture there from 1973-74. He went on to work for Anthony Caro and to win Sainsbury and Arts Council Awards in 1974 and 1976. In 1978 he was elected member of The London Group.

John ‘s work has been exhibited widely and he has had numerous solo exhibitions including at The Milton Gallery and The Start Gallery in London. His work can be found in a number of public collections, including the London Borough of Camden and Sunderland Arts Centre, and in the print collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and the Picasso Museum, Paris. Commissions include Unilever PLC and Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge. In 2015 he was elected an associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society.

John has taught widely, including at Chelsea College of Art and Design where he was senior lecturer. He also managed Camden Arts Centre from 1975-85. He lives and works in Greenwich, London.
