John Plumb Biography

1927-2008

John Plumb was a very well known painter and teacher. He was born in Luton, and studied at Luton School of Art 1942-45, the Byam Shaw School 1948-50, and Central School of Art in London 1952-55. His teachers included Victor Pasmore and William Turnbull. He exhibited at the Artists’ International Association (AIA) abstract shows in the 1950s and in the Situation shows of the early 1960s. He also showed at Gallery One, the New Vision Centre Gallery and at the Marlborough, Axiom and Arnolfini Galleries. His work is represented in a number of public collections, including The Tate Gallery, The Arts Council, Contemporary Art Society, The British Council, Aberdeen Art Gallery, and the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne. He lived in London for many years and later in Devon. Nick Waters Art.
