This original color etching comes from De Mauvais Sujets ("The Bad Subjects"), a 1958 illustrated portfolio that paired Marc Chagall’s artwork with texts by French writer Jean Paulhan. The series brings together Paulhan’s sharp wit and Chagall’s imaginative visuals, creating a mix of humor, satire, and poetry in both word and image.
Chagall’s prints for this series are lively and full of character. You’ll find his signature floating figures, playful animals, and surreal scenes—but here, there’s also a slightly more mischievous tone that sets it apart from some of his more romantic or biblical work. The result is charming, curious, and full of personality.
This piece is part of a well-known Chagall series that’s less commonly seen than some of his more famous books, making it a great find for collectors looking for something with both charm and depth.
The work is in Excellent condition.
