Salman Toor (b. 1983, Lahore, Pakistan) is a New York–based artist known for intimate, art-historically layered paintings and drawings of queer Brown men moving between South Asia and the diaspora. He studied painting and drawing at Ohio Wesleyan University and received his MFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. His work has been shown in the 60th Venice Biennale, and his solo exhibition No Ordinary Love, organised by the Baltimore Museum of Art, toured several US museums.

Toor has said that painting was something he learned after moving from Pakistan to the United States, while drawing was always second nature. That draughtsman’s instinct, with its quick, sketch-like line, carries into his printmaking.

As a printmaker, Toor extends his central subjects (migration, belonging, desire and the weight of inherited imagery) into a multiple, so the same quiet scenes can reach a wider audience.
