ABOUT:
Andy Warhol’s 1967 Lincoln Center Ticket screenprint was commissioned to commemorate the Fifth New York Film Festival. By creating the image in much larger scale, and overlaying it with his iconic neon flower motif, Warhol elevated a disposable cultural artifact into fine pop art. The print was published by the Leo Castelli Gallery and originally printed by Maurel Studios in New York. It highlights Warhol’s fascination with commercial printing techniques and his obsession with both the Hollywood machine and New York’s vibrant cultural scene. The piece was released in two main editions: an unsigned edition of 500 and a signed and numbered deluxe edition of 200, which Warhol signed with an engraving needle on the verso.
