Notes: Untitled (Kiss) (2019) marries Alvar Aalto’s classic piece of modern furniture design, Stool 60, with a commissioned work by conceptual artist Barbara Kruger.

Finished in Kruger’s signature black, white and red, this bespoke stool was produced in an initial multiple of 300 with a final continuation of a further 300. Each stool is hand-numbered and finished on the underside with the artist’s stamp of authenticity.

With a career spanning the past fifty years, Kruger is internationally known for her pictures and words. Her photographic works, expansive installations and multichannel videos engage issues of power, gender, identity and value.

The Artist

Barbara Kruger

Barbara Kruger is an America feminist and conceptual artist whose work challenges societal expectations and the relationship between artist and audience. Kruger, born in New Jersey in 1945, uses silkscreen prints with the imagery of mass media to confront cultural norms around consumerism and women’s rights. She uses black and white images with bold, simple captions in red and white to give a clear communication about what the piece means for her and how and what she wants the audience to see it.
