About the Artist: Byron Gálvez (1941–2009) was a celebrated Mexican artist born in Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo, México. Raised in a culturally rich environment, he moved to Mexico City at age 16 to study at the prestigious Academy of San Carlos, where he trained under renowned artists including Antonio Rodríguez Luna, Francisco Moreno Capdevila, Luis Nishizawa, Santos Balmori, and Antonio Ramírez.
In 1964, Gálvez held his first solo exhibition, marking the beginning of an international career that would encompass more than 60 individual exhibitions across Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Latin America, as well as countless group shows. A defining moment came when legendary actor and art collector Vincent Price purchased every work in Gálvez’s debut exhibition. Impressed by the young artist’s talent and productivity, Price famously referred to him as a “Mexican Picasso.”
Throughout his distinguished career, Gálvez received more than 15 awards and honors recognizing his significant contributions to contemporary Mexican art. His vibrant, imaginative works continue to be admired by collectors and institutions around the world.
