Grattaprint is a series of interactive screen prints conceived by CANEMORTO during their residency at Gate 44 in 2025, where printmaking becomes a performative and participatory act. Produced as scratch-off works, each print conceals a second image beneath its surface, revealed only through an act of deliberate alteration: scratching.

Presented through a public action in Milan, where the trio operated as street vendors, Grattaprint challenges conventional notions of authorship, value, and collectability. By inviting the destruction of the image to unlock its hidden layer—and potentially a symbolic reward—the project collapses the boundary between artwork, game, and ritual, aligning CANEMORTO’s practice with chance, risk, and collective experience.

The Artist

CANEMORTO

CANEMORTO is an anonymous Italian artist trio active since 2007. Their practice is built around an evolving surreal macro-narrative: masked alter egos, an invented language, and devotion to a canine deity named Txakurra, form the core of a cult-like mythology that frames both their street and studio work. Maintaining strict anonymity, the trio appears publicly only through these masked identities.
